Dr. David Marcon
I started CrossFit in 2016 with my daughter. I was curious about CrossFit and her interest pushed me to schedule an On-Ramp at Calibrated. In retrospect, my training had lost focus and I wasn’t as excited to workout like I used to. There were no competitions or races to train for, no goals being set, just sets and reps with the same exercises I had mastered decades ago. I did try to change things up a bit with Core routines and Rowing (I rowed a million meters in little over a year). But there was still something lacking. Our On-Ramp was eye opening and more than a little humbling. I knew lifting would be my strength but I didn’t realize how much flexibility and stamina I had lost over the years. I know now that these deficiencies weren’t due to a lack of activity rather a lack of varied activity and intensity. It’s easy to avoid your weaknesses & go through the motions of working when you train alone. In my humble On-Ramp I found my new goals. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do CrossFit. I didn’t just want to regain abilities I once owned I wanted to attain things I never mastered. Balance, Jumping Rope, Handstands, etc. …
I am by no one’s standards a “finished product”but I have reaped great satisfaction from my progress. These personal accomplishments could not have occurred if not for great coaching and support from other members. As a coach I hope to help others reach their goals and serve as a mentor to others who think they aren’t in good enough shape or too old to do CrossFit.
